The national flag escort of Zhengzhou universities welcomes the military parade and trains for 12 hours a day

Going to Tiananmen to watch the flag-raising ceremony is a lifelong dream for many people. They walk across the Jinshui Bridge every day to raise the "First Flag of the Republic". Perhaps no other unit in China receives as much attention as the National Flag Guard. In the eyes of many, they are the representatives of China’s national image and the image of the military. This team is the Tiananmen National Flag Guard, but their real life is very mysterious. Yesterday, Hao Dongdong, who returned from the army to his hometown to lead his villagers to become rich, revealed to reporters the little-known lives of the "National Flag Guard".

Hao Dongdong, 29, is 1.8 meters tall, handsome and dark-skinned. Because he has been carrying a gun on his right shoulder for a long time, his right shoulder blade has a thick callus, and his right arm is obviously thicker than his left arm. Hao Dongdong was selected into the National Flag Guard in 2004, when he was only 17 years old.

70% elimination rate: 3 hours of sleep per night

He had just been in the army for a month and had to run 5 kilometers every day. Later, he realized that running 5 kilometers every morning was just an "appetizer". From Jinshui Bridge to the base of the national flag pole, he took 138 steps. For this 103.5-meter crossing, every new recruit had to cross a threshold before they could stand under the national flag pole.

The soldiers of the Tiananmen National Flag Guard are carefully selected from among the tens of thousands of recruits every year after three months of military training. At each pass, a group of people must be eliminated. That year, more than 100 people entered the same batch as Hao Dongdong, but later, after three months of training, only about 30 people were left, and the elimination rate was 70%.
