Lanzhou New District: Out of the Road of Green Development of Industrial Iterative Upgrading

Gansu, China Network October 18 th(Our reporter Song Fangke, Ren Lei, Yang Yanru) On October 18th, a network interview group from China on the mother’s river went into the chemical industry park in Lanzhou New District to visit the "liquid sunshine" ecological energy project and see the green industry leading the future energy development trend.
Lanzhou New District is the first in the northwest and the fifth national new district in China. Under the correct leadership of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government, and with the care and support of the Lanzhou Municipal Party Committee and the municipal government, Lanzhou New District closely follows the strategic positioning given to the new district by the state as "an important national industrial base and a demonstration area for undertaking industrial transfer", and makes a scientific decision according to the situation. In early 2018, it was decided to develop a green chemical industry in Lanzhou New District. Nowadays, the green industry in Lanzhou New District has gradually become a scale, leading the development of green energy industry.
The Outline of the Yellow River Basin Ecological Protection and High-quality Development Plan issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council mentioned supporting Lanzhou New District, Xixian New Area and other national-level new districts and Zhengzhou Airport Economic Comprehensive Experimental Zone to become refined and strong leading industries. Give full play to the role of Gansu Lanbai Economic Zone, Ningxia Yinchuan-Shizuishan, Shanxi-Shaanxi-Henan Yellow River Golden Triangle to undertake industrial transfer demonstration zones and improve the ability to undertake industrial transfer at home and abroad.
Lanzhou New District focuses on developing green chemical industry, and constantly improves its capacity to undertake industrial transfer. At present, the world’s first 1,000-ton-scale solar fuel synthesis demonstration project in Lanzhou New District Green Chemical Industry Park has basically completed all technical indicators.
The so-called solar fuel synthesis refers to the use of renewable energy such as solar energy, wind energy and water energy to generate electricity and produce clean and renewable liquid fuels such as methanol, which is called "liquid sunlight", which is also considered as one of the fundamental ways to solve carbon dioxide emissions in the future, and is also a new energy storage technology to collect and store renewable energy such as intermittent solar energy.
The project consists of three basic units: solar photovoltaic power generation, hydrogen production by electrolysis of water and methanol synthesis by hydrogenation of carbon dioxide. The project relies on the transformation project of scientific and technological achievements of academician expert workstation established by Academician Li Can of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and uses photovoltaic power generation and electrolysis of new high-efficiency catalyst to prepare hydrogen, and then uses new high-efficiency catalyst to build kiloton carbon dioxide hydrogenation to synthesize methanol.
In January, 2021, under the guidance of Academician Li Can and the team of experts, the world’s first 1,000-ton-scale solar fuel synthesis demonstration project was successfully tested in the Green Chemical Industry Park of Lanzhou New District, producing crude methanol, which marked the first step of the project to transform renewable energy such as solar energy into liquid fuel for industrial production, and realized the industrialization demonstration from laboratory research results.
According to reports, the project is of great significance to alleviate the energy security problems in China and even the global ecological civilization construction. On the one hand, it explores the optimal utilization mode of abundant renewable energy such as solar energy in western China, and provides an effective path other than UHV transmission for converting renewable energy such as solar energy into liquid fuel methanol; On the other hand, solar fuel methanol is a green hydrogen carrier, which can help solve the safety problem of hydrogen energy storage and transportation.
Just like the "liquid sunshine" eco-energy project’s green conversion of energy, Lanzhou New District Chemical Industry Park has been committed to the research of green and fine chemicals, in order to look for energy solutions with good environment and sustainable development.
At present, it is located in the northwest of Lanzhou New District, about 25 kilometers away from the core area of the new district, with a total planned area of 150 square kilometers. The infrastructure of water, electricity, roads, gas, steam and communication in the first phase (12 square kilometers) of the Chemical Industry Park has been fully completed and put into use, which fully meets the construction and production conditions of the landing projects. The investment in fixed assets has been 21.5 billion yuan, and it is expected that 50 enterprises will be completed and put into operation by the end of the year, showing a strong development trend.
More than 160 projects have been introduced into the park, with a total investment of over 27 billion yuan and more than 700 kinds of landing products. Among them, the "Specialization and Innovation" Chemical Science and Technology Industrial Park plans to build 600 special workshops, 200 buildings will be opened and 75 buildings will be put into operation, so as to build an international exclusive demonstration zone and an export base for "production, learning and research" of high-end chemicals in integration of defense and civilian technologies. Among them, more than 60 products, such as liquid crystal display materials, anti-tumor pharmaceutical intermediates and third-generation cephalosporins, have reached the international advanced level, which can effectively alleviate the shortage of corresponding products in China.
