According to the announcement issued by the State Administration of Market Supervision, the new version of the revised "General Rules for the Quality of Mooncakes" has been officially implemented, and the old version of the "Mooncakes" revised in 2015 has been abolished. At the publicity and implementation training meeting, experts from the Municipal Quality Inspection Center interpreted the new version of the General Rules for the Quality of Mooncakes and the standards for restricting the over-packaging of commodities requiring food and cosmetics. By comparing the new and old standards and giving examples, they explained the background, terminology definition, main content requirements, enterprise implementation standard rules and matters needing attention of the standards in detail, and answered questions raised by enterprises about label identification and mooncake naming.

Compared with the old and new editions, there are many new changes worthy of attention. According to experts from the Municipal Quality Inspection Center, the new version of the standard changes the name from "Moon Cake" to "General Rules for the Quality of Moon Cake", refines the specific categories of raw materials, deletes the word "main" in the main raw materials, standardizes the name format of edible oils and fats, and divides sugar into the main raw materials of cake crust, and clearly points out that moon cakes are cakes.

In addition, the new version of the standard changes the product classification into three categories: classification by processing technology, classification by local characteristics and other kinds of moon cakes, and deletes the hot processing category and cold processing category, and divides moon cakes into baking category, frying category, cooking category and cooked flour category, and cancels other categories under the cold processing category.
